Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials

Section 30 of the Occupational Heath and Safety Act specifies that prior to the start of a renovation or demolition type project, the owner must determine what Designated Substances are present at the site and prepare a list of these substances. Eleven (11) Designated Substances are outlined, which include: 

  • Acrylonitrile
  • Arsenic
  • Asbestos
  • Benzene
  • Coke oven emissions
  • Ethylene oxide
  • Isocyanates
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Silica
  • Vinyl chloride monomer

Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality and general comfort for building occupants should be of paramount importance for all building related management and property owners.

General IAQ testing parameters include temperature, relative humidity, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Additional testing parameters can be added based on specific client requirements.
